Obituary MR. A. PIEPER VERNOR, Mar, 3.--The district lost one of its oldest residents when Mr. Adolph Pieper passed away suddenly at his home on Friday morning.
He was born in the district, and lived for 70 years in the homestead where he was born. He lived quietly, and was respected throughout the district. Keenly interested in sport, he was, perhaps, best known as a cricketer and rifleman, and won a number of trophies. Often he walked long, distances to fish in the river.
In his early years his home was frequently visited by local aborigines, chief of whom was King Johnny, and Mr. Pieper learned many of their legends and stories. He could recall clearly incidents in the 1893 flood. Five or six families were taken in by his father when their homes were washed away by flood waters. Mr. Pieper was a member of the Church of Christ at Vernor, Fernvale, and Lowood, and was an elder for over 20 years.
He is survived by a son, Mr. Colin Pieper, a daughter, Mrs. A. F. Bischoff, eight grandchildren, and one great grandchild. One daughter passed away at the age of 18 months, and his wife died six years ago.
