A DEATH.
ONE of the oldest identities of the district, in the person of Mr. Wilhelm Schroder, passed suddenly and apparently peacefully away some time during Sunday night at the advanced age of 73 years. As he retired on Sunday night without complaining of being in any way indisposed, the shock Mrs. Schroder must have experienced on finding her husband dead in his bed on the following morning can be better imagined than described! The sad news quickly spread, and the profoundest regret was expressed throughout the district. The deceased gentleman came to the colony nearly 40 years ago, and to this district a few years later. He was widely known and highly respected for his upright and honest character. The esteem in which the deceased was held was testified to by the large number who paid their last tribute of respect at the Vernor cemetery, where his remains were interred on Tuesday afternoon.
