    • Orange Blossoms.
      SCHAFFERIUS - ZISCHKE.
A very pretty wedding (writes our Blenheim correspondent) took place at Blenheim on Wednesday, the 27th of April, when Mr. Paul Schafferius (son of the late Mr. A. Schafferius, of Deep Gully, near Gatton) was united in the holy bonds of matrimony to Miss Elma Zischke (daughter of Mr. H. Zischke of Blenheim). The ceremony, which eventuated in the Blenheim Baptist Church, was impressively performed by the Rev. J. Heinrich. The bride was very becomingly attired in a white satin gown, and looked charming as she entered the church escorted by her brother (Mr. H. Zischke, jun.), who gave her away. Her sister, Miss Zelma Zischke, was chief bridesmaid. The other bridesmaids were Miss Elsa Zischke (another sister of the bride), Miss Tally Fritz (cousin of the bride- groom), and Miss Mary Zischke (cousin of the bride). The bridegroom was attended by Mr. H. Zischke (brother of the bride) as best man, Mr. Leo. Schafferius (brother of the bridegroom), Mr. Paul Zischke (brother of the bride), and Mr. Otto Fritz (cousin of the bridegroom). The esteem in which the bridal pair are held was amply shown by the large attendance at the church. The congregation remained seated while the newly-married couple left the church. Showers of rice, &c., greeted them on the way. The bride was driven to the church by Mr. E. Neumann, who also drove the newly-married couple to the home of the bride's parents, where a sumptuous wedding breakfast had been prepared by willing hands. All present did justice to the breakfast, which had been spread in the old house, which was splendidly decorated by the bride's friends, and which did duty as a residence until the present fine home was erected. Breakfast over, various games, songs, &c., were indulged in. Group photographs were taken by Mr. Marsden, of Laidley, during the afternoon. Mr. G. Boyd, of Laidley, was present with a nice assortment of fruit. The wedding-cake, which was of two tiers, was supplied by Mr. M'Carthy of Laidley, and reflected great credit on that gentleman's skill. The bride's dress was made at Messrs. Cribb and Foote's, Ipswich, and it was certainly a work of art, and added greatly to the bride's naturally handsome appearance. Mr. and Mrs. Schafferius intend making their future home at Deep Gully, whither they will go in about a week's time. The presents were both costly and numerous. The time was passed very pleasantly in dancing, games, &c., which were kept up far into the morning. It was a glorious night, and the guests enjoyed themselves thoroughly.
In connection with the above, it is my very sad duty to record that the bridegroom's mother, Mrs. G. Krause, of Douglas, near Meringandan, died on Tuesday night, the 26th April, at about 11 o'clock. This exceedingly sad news was conveyed from Gatton by Mr. H. Manteufel, who brought it to the church about half-an-hour before the ceremony began. The tidings were, however, very considerately suppressed until after the wedding-breakfast. The greatest sympathy is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Schafferius in their very sad bereavement. [5]
