    • OBITUARY
      MR. FRANZ ZISCHKE.
GATTON, June 9.-One of the first settlers and early pioneers of the Ropeley district, Mr. Franz Zischke, died this morning at Murgon. He was born in Germany, and had reached his 79th year. He came to Australia from Germany with his parents when he was 12 years of age. About seven years after he married and selected land at Ropeley, when that district was covered with thick scrub and bush, and the blacks were numerous. Possessed of a fine pioneering spirit, the late Mr. Zischke overcame all difficulties, and by hard work made a success of his farm. By his kindly, genial personality, he made a host of friends. By his first wife he had four children, Messrs. William, Otto, and Charles Zischke, all of Murgon, and Mrs. F. Wessling, Buderim Mountains. His second wife died 18 years ago. Of this marriage there were six children, Messrs. Max and Herbert Zischke, Mesdames O. Grams and E. Wessling, of Murgon, and Mesdames W. and A. Dodt, of Lower Tent Hill. He was an active member of the Lutheran Church. About 12 years ago he disposed of his property at Ropeley and lived in retirement at Murgon. He is survived by 10 children, 31 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.
