OBITUARY
MR. EDWARD HALLE.
Mr. Edward Halle died at the Newcastle Hospital after a short illness. He was the youngest son of the late Mr. George Halle, who was appointed as the first instructor of the Canadian North-west Mounted Police, and held that position for many years under the Biritish Government. Mr. Edward Halle was respected by his workmates. Many a lad received gilted instructions when serving his apprenticeship as an engineer. He was born 78 years ago at Fort Henry, Kingston, Ontario, Canada West, and was educated in the wilds of Canada by his mother, who was a schoolteacher. He served his time as an engineer under Sir William Armstrong, of Newcastle-on-Tyne, England, and later was engineer of many steamers. Having decided to settle in Australia, he was eventuailly employed by the Public Works Department and later at Walsh Island. He retired after a useful life, four years ago. The service at the graveside was conducted by Rev. Wheaton. The Masonic service was conducted by Wor. Master Goldring, assisted by the brethren of Lodge Harmony, No. 15. and City of Newcastle Mark Lodge. The pall-bearers were Messrs. Murray, Percy, Hagan and Jensen. Wreaths were received from--Loving wife and family; Katie and Jim; Mag and Jim Brisbane; Jack and Kevin; Mrs. M. Purcell; Mrs. A. Thornton and family, Wallsend; Craig and Vale family; Mr. and Mrs. Charlton; Maryville Lodge Harmony. No. 15; Mr. and Mrs. Reg Pogonoski; City of Newcastle Mark Lodge; Bolton Progress Association.
