      SECOND SUNDAY WEDDING

      Ceremony At Oxley

Although the Queensland Marriage Act provides any day as wedding day. between the hours of 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., few choose to be married on a Sunday. The day, however, may become more popular for weddings.

The wedding of Mr. Nouga Niemeyer, of Brisbane, and Miss Alma Sheather, of Brunswick Heads, at the Apostolic Church, Oxley, on Sunday, was the second Sunday wedding in Brisbane recently, Sunday was chosen in this instance so that the parents of the bride and bridegroom, who are in business, could be present.

The bridegroom's father is proprietor of the Wattle Cafe, Roma Street, city, where the wedding reception was held. The bride's parents, who live at Brunswick Heads, left for Brisbane at 2 a.m., on Sunday after closing their shop.

The bridegroom's grandfather, the Rev. H. F. Niemeyer, founded the Apostolic Church in Queensland at Hatton Vale. The Rev. O. Flor, of Ipswich, a friend of the Niemeyer family, officiated at Sunday's wedding.

Queensland's Marriage Act, framed on the lines of the English Act, was passed in 1864. At that time in England Sunday was the only day in the week that many bridegrooms were free from work. An official of the Registrar General's Department, said yesterday that apparently the only reason why Sunday marriages were so rare was that many people regarded the marriage ceremony as one calling for a certain amount of subsequent gaiety at receptions, which would be marred if a wedding were held on a Sunday.
