DEATH OF MAJOR EDMOND LOCKYER.-We regret to announce the demise of Major Edmund Lockyer - Usher of the Black Rod in the Legislative Council. He had been suffering from the prevailing epidemic, and his friends thought him just on the eve of recovery. At the time of his death he was seated in his arm-chair. The transition from life to death was so free from physical suffering, that he was believed to be asleep, when the attention of his relatives was first attracted by what they believed to be merely a slate of quiescence. Major Lockyer was esteemed by all who knew him for his urbanity and gentlemanly bearing. The funeral will move from the residence of the deceased gentleman, Bay-street, Woolloomooloo, to-morrow at 10 a.m.

«/b»Obituary.
EX-SERGEANT J. PICKERING.
PIONEER POLICE OFFICER.
Mr. J. Pickering, I.S.O., ex-sergeant of police, and a pioneer member of the Queensland police force died at his home, Pomona, on Friday, at the age of 87 years. He had been in ill-health for some considerable time.
The late Mr. Pickering, who was born in Sydney, came to Queensland in 1869 and shortly afterwards joined the  police force. He was stationed first at Yandina, known as Maroochy in those days, and one of Cobb and Co's. changing stations in the coaching days. From Yandina he went to Maryborough and Tiaro, and later to Nanango and Tewantin. He retired while at Tewantin in 1908, and moved to Pomona, where he resided until his death which occurred at the 60th anniversary of his wedding.
In the early days Sergeant Pickering acted as escort for coaches carrying large sums of gold from Gympie along the North Coast and to Maryborough, and had many exciting adventures with aborigines and Chinese, many of the latter then being on the Mary Valley and Gympie goldfields.
On one occasion Mrs. Pickering, who survives her husband, was left with instructions as to how to deal with an aboriginal bushranger if he appeared while Sergeant Pickering was absent. When Sergeant Pickering returned he found that his wife had acted to such good purpose that she had the dusky outlaw under lock and key.
For his handling of the aborigines Sergeant Pickering was awarded the Imperial Service Order, being one of the first five in Australia to receive it. He leaves, in addition to his widow, who was Miss M. E.H. Sivyer, of  Maryborough, a family of five daughters -- Mesdames J. J. Steer (Gympie), J. Matheson and W. H. Campbell (Pomona), J. H. Page (Bundaberg), and F. G. Lister (Cootharaba). The interment took place in the Pomona Cooran cemetery on Saturday.

5522 «b»(Johann Behm baptism record, born 30.11.1814 in Gorkow)
«/b»Bauer Joachim Schulz; Bauersohn Christoph Bröcker; Christoph Bröcker (Dorotheenwalde); Martin Behm (Böck); Bauer Moll (Boock); Christoph Zimmermann (Mewegen); Jungfrau Reina Behm (Boock); Hirtenfrau Vogel (Gorkow); Frau Witkop (Gorkow); Frau Behm (Blankensee); Frau Behm (Mewegen)
[It appears that Renate already had the baptism record of Johann, so Jens did not repeat the information, but only added a list of Godparents.]

Please do not be alarmed by the enormous number of godparents! It was considered as a sign of prestige and wealth to have as many godfathers (for each godfather above the first three, a certain fee had to be paid to the church). The godparents may be able to provide valuable clues about the origin of a family.
