Details taken from the March 1879 issue of the Rockhampton newspaper "The Capricornia":
Embarked Hamburg 6 Nov 1878 on board 'Charles Dickens'; disembarked Keppel Bay 26 Feb 1879.
On her second voyage to Queensland (first in 1877) the 'Charles Dickens' left Hamburg 6.11.1878 with Surgeon-Superintendent Dr. Thon, Matron Miss Drohun and 457 immigrants - full paying 13, assisted 29, free 388, free nominated 25, remittance 1, stowaway 1.
Wencks listed as free nominated. (Anna, sister of Reimer was already in Queensland. She married Heinrich Thomas Jurgensen, born Fohr Island. They sailed to Australia on board the 'Humbolt' in 1870.)
Arrived Keppel Bay 26.2.1879 - visited by immigration agent & govt. medical officer Dr. Salmond - quarantine not necessary. Passengers transshipped to the 'Lady Bowen' about midnight 28 February en route from Gladstone to Rockhampton. Brought up river and landed at wharf at 6am Saturday 1 March 1879.
Dr. Salmond instructed that two large tents be erected in the Immigration Depot as temporary accommodation for those who could not find room in the building.

- In 1928 Ernst and his son Ernest travelled to Germany to visit the old home, the house in Jarplundfeld which was the last place of residence in Germany of Reimer & Trinke and their children.
It is not known where else they went, but they apparently travelled home via Canada. They left Southampton, England for Quebec, Canada on the "Empress of France" 30 June 1928. Ernst was 57 and Ernest 23. Their last address in the UK was Bernaido Hotel, Russell Square, London. KINGAROY
Farewell.-A large gathering of residents assembled at the Taabinga Village State School on March 2 to bid farewell to the schoolmaster (Mr. E. A. F. Wenck) and his son (Mr. E. V. R. Wenck) prior to their departure on a trip to England and the Continent. Mr. S. Hansen, secretary of the school committee, on behalf of those assembled presented Mr. Wenck, sen., with a leather portmanteau and travelling rug, and Mr. Wenck, jun., with a set of xylonite hair brushes, clothes brushes, and comb. Both suitably replied.
Personal.-Messrs. E. A. F. and E. V. R. Wenck have left to join the s.s. Ormonde on a six months' tour of the Old Country.

In September 1896 at the time of his naturalization he was a provisional school teacher at Durham on the Etheridge Goldfields near Georgetown in far north Queensland. He was still there in August 1897 when his youngest brother Gustav died at Croydon, 130 kilometres from Durham.
He was the longest serving teacher at Prenzlau State School. 1898-1916. [Source German Research Group, Genealogical Society of Queensland Inc]
Ernst was the Head Teacher at Prenzlau in 1916 when he was transferred to Taabinga on the recommendation of Sergeant T O'Sullivan of Lowood Police and the Lowood War Council Committee. [Source "German Settlement in the Rosewood Scrub" by Frank Snars]
Evon Goldsworthy was a pupil of Ernst about 1918 at Taabinga Village school, near Kingaroy. Also a pupil of Ernst was Jo Bjelke Peterson (former Queensland Premier). Jo said Ernst was a good maths teacher, not so hot on English. [Source Evon Goldsworthy]
KINGAROY.
Farewell Gathering-A large number of well-wishers gathered at the Taabinga Village School to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs E Wenck and family prior to their departure to Laidley on transfer. Mr Wenck had been head master of the school for over 12 years. Mr S. Hansen, as secretary of the school committee and on behalf of those present made a presentation to Mr and Mrs Wenck of an afternoon tea service, and a case of silver spoons as a token of esteem. Mr Cecil Wenck (assistant teacher) was the recipient of a set of gold sleeve links. Mr Wenck, sen., suitably responded.
