OBITUARY.
THE LATE MRS. SCHIEVE.
Death (writes our Minden correspondent under date of the 30th September) has taken from our midst Mrs. Emilie Maria Cathrina Schieve, an old and respected German pioneer resident. The deceased, whose maiden name was Emilie Maria Cathrina Blank, would have been 68 years on the 22nd November next. She was born on the 22nd November, 1843, in Bublitz Pomern, Germany, where, in the year 1865, she was married to Mr. Frederich Johann Dennien, the issue being 12 children--six sons and six daughters.
Four sons and two daughters predeceased their mother many years ago, all the others being grown up, married, and living in different centres. They are Mr. Herrmann Dennien, Lowood ; Mr. Frederich Dennien, Normanby; Mrs. Gottfried Sawyer, Rosevale ; Mrs. W. Goodmann, Lowood ; and Mrs. Herrmann Wruck, and Mrs. Frederich Herrmann, Back Plains.
The deceased, with her late husband, came to Queensland in the year 1877 in the sailing ship Fritzreither, arriving on the 6th October. They remained in Rockhampton for three years, whence they proceeded to this part and selected an excellent agricultural farm on which they succeeded in making a comfortable home for themselves. After living there for about 14 years Mr. Dennien met with a sudden and sad death through his horse dashing into a tree. The widow did her best for her fatherless children, who, at the time, were, small, having a hard struggle at times. Some few years later she was married to Mr. Ferdinand Scheive of Plainland.
During the last few years her health began to fail, and she sold her valuable agricultural farm to her son-in-law, Mr. Herrmann Wruck, with whom she lived for the past five years. About five days prior to her death she became ill again, and was taken to her eldest son's (Mr. Herrmann Dennien's) residence at Lowood, it being very convenient for communicating with a doctor. Despite the skilful aid, she passed away peacefully, and quite unexpectedly at 1.30 o'clock last Wednesday afternoon.
The cortege, which moved away from Dennien's residence at 8 o'clock yesterday morning, was a very lengthy one. On reaching the graveyard connected with the Zion Lutheran Church at Minden, at 10.30 a.m., the beautiful coffin containing the mortal remains of the deceased, was taken into the church-of which the deceased was an active member, and at which she was a very regular attendant. The Rev. J. Frank, of Marburg, who also conducted the sad rites at the graveside, delivered a very impressive sermon prior to the interment. Besides the abovenamed sons and daughters, the deceased leaves a widow and a great number of grandchildren.
