Death is fast thinning the ranks of those who resided in this district in the stirring days of the early gold rushes. On Monday last Mrs Wilkinson, widow of the late Robert Wood Wilkinson, J P. (who carried on business in Talbot as a chemist until about 30 years ago, when he removed to Maryborough), died at her daughter's residence, Malmsbury. Her youngest son, Gerald Ivor, lost his life in the Boer war, and the drinking fountain opposite the Town Hall was erected by the citizens of Maryborough to perpetuate his memory. The deceased lady leaves a grown-up family of one son (Mr Robert W. Wilkinson, of Melbourne) and four daughters. The remains were brought to Maryborough, and interred in the family grave on Tuesday afternoon. The pall-bearers were Messrs Clarence Smith, J. R. Deans, J. C. Chisholm, and J. N. Gearing. The service at the graveside was conducted by the Rev. Canon Davies. Mrs Wilkinson was highly esteemed in Talbot, and her old friends here will much regret to hear of her demise.
