    • MRS. ANNIE HYNES.

The death occurred on Thursday at Grafton of an old and much respected resident of the town in the person of Mrs. Annie Hynes, widow of the late Owen Hynes, who passed away at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. H. A. Sanders.

The late Mrs. Hynes, who was in her 89th year, was born at Tunstall, Richmond River, in 1846, being a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Robinson, and therefore, a near relative of Mr. Harry Robinson, of Richmond Hill, Swan Bay. She went to the Clarence with her parents when two years of age, her father taking the management of Mr. Ogilvie's property at Broadwater, Lower Lawrence. When she was six years of age, her parents moved to Deep Gully on the Copmanhurst road, where they lived for many years. From there, deceased was married in 1874 to the late Mr. Owen Hynes, and subsequently they lived at Lawrence, Eatonsville, Grafton, Nann Creek (when gold mining was in progress there) and Fernmount (Bellinger River). They went back to Grafton in 1888 and deceased had lived there ever since. Her husband ran the Freemasons' Hotel, where the present Commercial Hotel is now situated, and when the bank bought the property he carried the license to what was then known as the Commercial Hotel, changing its name to the Freemasons. Mr. Hynes afterwards conducted the Courthouse, Post Office and Royal Hotels and it was at the last mentioned that he died in 1907. Mrs. Hynes continued in business at the hotel until 1914, when she retired and went to reside with her daughter, with whom she had lived ever since. After her sons, Harold and Reg, left Grafton ten years ago, they visited her every year during their annual holidays and this in the case of the latter entailed a journey of 3000 miles each time.

She leaves three sons, Harold, of Drummoyne, Reginald, of Adelaide, who is secretary of the South Australian Jockey Club, and Percy (Grafton), and one daughter, Mrs. H. A. Sanders, of Grafton.
