    • THE LATE MR. W. K. WITTY.

      In the death of the late Mr. W. K. Witty another old colonist has passed away. He was born in Hanley, Staffordshire, England, and arrived in Brisbane in 1864 by the ship Fusilier, and soon afterwards started business in the Valley, and subsequently in Queen-street, where he kept the Oxford, then known as Witty's Family Hotel. He was also engaged in tin mining, when the mineral was first discovered at Stanthorpe, and other mining ventures of the day. He was one of the pioneers of the sugar industry in the Logan and Albert districts, and took an active part in local matters, being one of the first members of the Beenleigh Divisional Board.
