PERSONAL
Mrs. Emma Schultz, licensee of the Crown Hotel, Charters Towers, whose death occurred with such shocking suddenness on New Year's Day, was 55 years of age, and though a native of Stettin, Germany, had spent practically the whole of her life in Queensland. She came to Brisbane with her parents on the ill-fated Quetta, which met its doom on the return trip, and subsequently lived at Boonah where, in 1900, she married the late Albert Schultz, who was attached to the Royal Permanent Artillery Garrison, and took up residence again in Brisbane, where she remained until 1925. In that year she became licensee of the Royal Hotel, Finch Hatton, outside Mackay, and in the following year came to Charters Towers where she bought the Crown Hotel. Ever since, Mrs. Schultz had conducted that house, esteemed by all who came in contact with her, an excellent hostess, and an indefatigable worker. One who knew her well, in a letter of condolence to her only son, Mr. Percy Schultz, paid this tribute to the deceased: "I admired her tremendously--her capacity for sustained hard work, her indomitable courage, and her fortitude in illness. These were truly very fine things in her character, and not by any means, the only fine ones." Mrs. Schultz is survived also by a sister, Mrs. W. A. Zerner, and a brother, Mr. R. Dlttberner, Sandgate.
