OBITUARY
MRS. ELIZA B. SAWTELL
It is with feelings of the deepest regret that we have to record the death of a most highly esteemed and worthy resident of Dorrigo in the person of Mrs. Alfred E. Sawtell, in the early hours of Wednesday morning last. Her passing came with shocking suddenness and without the slightest warning. She spent a happy day on Tuesday, visiting at the residence of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. C. Ashdown and was in her usual bright and cheerful mood, being as described by some friends who had afternoon tea with her "the life of the party." She returned home had tea, as usual listened to the wireless, and retired to bed apparently in her ordinary state of health. About 1 a.m., her daughters Misses Alma and Gladys, with whom she resided, were aroused by their mother taking suddenly ill. She became unconscious and passed away within an hour. Before her marriage to the late Mr. Alfred Sawfell, about 50 years ago, Mrs. Sawtell was Miss Parfitt. She was born in England and came to Australia while a young girl. She and her husband were among the original band of pioneers who laid the foundation of the Dorrigo district of to-day, having come here 40 years ago, when they selected the land at North Dorrigo which now constitutes the farm on which they lived for many years on which their family was born and reared and which is still in the possession of the family. The deceased lady, who was 70 years of age at the time of her passing, was predeceased by her husband about three years ago. She is survived by five daughters and one son viz., Mesdames W. H. Shaw, C. Ashdown and Les Inskip, Misses Alma and Gladys and Mr. Les Sawtell, all of whom are residents of the Dorrigo district. Two brothers also survive, one of whom lives at Southport (Qd.) and the other at Wynnum (Qd.). The late Mrs. Sawtell was a charming lady with a most loveable nature and bright and happy disposition. She was one whom it was always a pleasure to meet because of the cheerful greeting and winning smile she had for everyone and will therefore be sadly missed far beyond her family circle. To the latter, who have been bereaved with such tragic suddenness, the utmost sympathy is extended on all sides.
