      DEATH AT HATTON VALE.
The many friends of Mr. Hermann Kerlin (whose silver wedding was chronicled in your column a few months ago) will learn with regret of the death of his son, Mr. Henry Kerlin, which occurred last Tuesday (writes our correspondent.) The young man, who was about 19 years of age, was a member of the Hatton Vale brass band, his family being staunch adherents of the German Apostolic Church. About a fortnight ago he complained of having been hurt through lifting a can of milk on a cart. He was loth to take to his bed, but this was insisted upon and as he gradually grew worse Dr. Macdonald, of Laidley, was called in. By this time rheumatic fever had supervened, but none thought that his end was so close, and his death on Tuesday was entirely unexpected. The funeral took plane on Wednesday (yesterday) and was largely attended between 20 and 30 German waggons being included in the procession. As the remains were taken from the house the band played a "farewell carol," and on arriving at the Church requiem marches were played to the grave. The Rev. H. F. Neimeyer was the officiating clergyman, the service at the grave being conducted with great impressiveness. The undertaking adjuncts were from the establishment of Mrs. Thatcher, Laidley, and reflect great credit upon her manager, Mr. B. Carlson, the beautiful blue nickel mounted coffin being his handiwork.
