    • MRS. LENA PAGEL LOWOOD, Dec. 26.--The death occurred recently of Mrs. Lena Pagel at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wendt, Clarendon, at the age of 76 years. She was born at Gross-fredenwaldt, Brandenberg, Germany, and came to Australia at the age of eight years with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. Albrecht. They arrived in Brisbane on January 27, 1884, on board the ship Urapara [Goalpara], and settled on, and pioneered a scrub farm at Tallegalla, near Marburg.

At the age of 18 years, she married Mr. Herman Pagel, of Tarampa. The couple lived at Tarampa and Mr. Pagel worked on the railway line at Lowood for some time. They then went to live at Mt. Beppo, where her husband was accidentally killed by a fall from a horse on December 12, 1912. She was left with a family of nine young children. The family moved to Tarampa and purchased a property where the late Mrs. Pagel lived with her youngest son Herman for 38 years.

About three months ago she became ill and was taken to her daughter's home at Clarendon. She was a bright and cheerful person and made many friends who found her true and lovable. The funeral took place at the Lowood Beth-El Lutheran Cemetery. The service was conducted by Pastor L. Doehler.

The late Mrs. Pagel leaves a family of three sons, Messrs. William (Cooper's Plains), Alfred (Gympie), and Herman Pagel (Tarampa), and five daughters, Mesdames Henry Wendt (Clarendon), H. Kleinhans (Lowood), W. Finnis (Bribie Island), H. Whitehead (Toowoomba), and A. Haak (Prenzlau). Three of her family died before her. She also leaves 24 grand-children, 17 great-grand-children, a brother, Mr. Otto Albrecht (Tallegalla), and two sisters. Mrs. F. Gigler (Laidley) and Mrs. B. Lee (Glenore Grove).
