      PERSONAL
An Interesting personality was Mr. George Butterworth, whose death occurred in the Ipswich General Hospital on Sunday afternoon. The late Mr. Butterworth was born at Adelong, New South Wales, 82 years ago, and could tell of many stirring incidents of the early days. He remembered vividly the exploits of the Kelly gang. **His grandfather served on Nelson's flag ship, the Victory, whilst his great grandfather was Major Lockyer, who accompanied Oxley in the journey up the Brisbane River, and who named the Bremer River after an old friend of his in the British Navy. About 40 years ago the late Mr. Butterworth came to Queensland and resided in Brisbane. He became a miner, and, leaving his family at Spring Hill, went north to Charters Towers. He related that one day when working in the mine a fall of earth occurred. One companion was killed instantly, and he received an injury to his hand, the scars of which he always bore. Returning to Brisbane the late Mr. Butterworth entered the service of the Brisbane City Council, and became a municipal Inspector. At the end of 17 years he retired, and after living for some time in Brisbane, came to reside with his only son, Mr. S. G. Butterworth, at Basin Pocket, five years ago. His health was quite good until last Tuesday, when he suddenly took ill, and passed away on Sunday afternoon. He is survived by a widow, and, besides his son, one daughter, Mrs. W. Benstead, of Brisbane. The funeral took place to the Ipswich Cemetery yesterday afternoon, the service at the graveside being conducted by REV. F. Birch. Rector of St. Paul's Church of England.

**These were his wife's ancestors, not George's.
