      CORPORAL T. FLINT

Our Westwood correspondent, writing on the 28th instant, says:-" Mr. H. Fiint has received the following letter from the Chief Secretary's office, Brisbane, dated the 23rd instant: 'With reference to my letter of the 14th of March, respecting the reported loss of your son, Corporal Thomas Flint, of the fifth Queensland contingent, I have the honour, by direction, to forward for your information the accompanying copy of a letter which has been received by the officer-in-charge of South African contingents' pay from Mr. J. B. Macfarlane, late private in the contingent, having reference to the casualty, and I am to express the Chief Secretary's regret that the reported death of your son is now confirmed.' The enclosure, which bears the date Brisbane, 21st May, reads: 'I have the honour to inform you that Ben Rudhall and Tom Flint, belonging to the Australian Commonwealth Regiment, were killed on the 3rd of February. I know for a fact that they were both killed and buried about sixteen miles from Grasskop.' Mr. Flint says the report of his son having been shot in a garden is false."
    Notes
    • Died in the Boer War 3 Feb 1902.
On 27 Oct 1967 there was a letter sent to Louis Flint of Townsville from the Central Army Records Office advising that there was a 648 Private Thomas FLINT who was killed in action at Amersfoot, South Africa on 3 Feb 1902. However, as no service records are available for reference, there is no proof this person was the subject of his enquiry. [5]
