      Mr S. T. O'Loughlin

Death came peacefully at the Yeppoon Hospital recently; to Mr. Stephen Terence O'Loughlin, another of the pioneers of Central Queensland. He was buried in the Yeppoon cemetery. Rev. Father   Brown read the burial service at the Sacred Heart Church, Yeppoon, and at the graveside.

Born in 1870 at Ballyea, County Clare, Ireland, Mr. O'Loughlin came with his parents in the Lady Douglas to Rockhampton in 1875. He was reared at Laurel Bank, the site on the Fitzroy of Messrs Whitehead and Co.'s early meatworks, and after attending Mrs Murthe's school, near Pink Lily, and a school in Rockhampton, he entered the cattle business.

After three years on Mr W. Broome's Woodlands station, one of the early settlements in the Yeppoon district, Mr O'Loughlin went to the late Mr Robert Archer's cattle station, where he served with the late Mr. Tom Myers.

Giving up station work, Mr O'Loughlin went droving in 1894, first with the late Mr Jimmy Tutton and later on his own account, one trip from Tilpal to Maitland with a mob of 1500 for sale taking over eight months.

On returning to the Central District Mr O'Loughlin became overseer for the late Mr. P. Cunningham on the old Rannes station owned by Gilchrist, Watt and Co., remaining there until Ranne was sold after the death of Mr Cunningham.

After further short periods on Ayrshire Downs, and Fernlees, Mr O'Loughlin, in conjunction with his father and brothers, purchased Hillside the old homestead of Messrs Croft Bros' early settlement in the Bungunuarra district. He remained there for 36 years and engaged in grazing, farming and dairying until his retirement to Mary Street, Yeppoon, in 1940.

Mr O'Loughlin married Mary, eldest daughter of the late Mr and Mrs P. Hogan, Wetfield, Farnborough, and is survived by his widow, who resides in Mary Street, Yeppoon, one son, Mr S. O'Loughlin (Rockhampton), three daughters, Mrs L. Wenck (Maryborough), Mrs S. Rankin (Lion Mountain), Miss D. O'Loughlin (Sydney), five grandchildren and one sister, Mrs M. Moloney (Eton Vale).
