      DEATH OF AN OLD RESIDENT.
Mr. Franz Kraut, a very old resident of this district, passed away in the Ipswich Hospital yesterday. The deceased had been indisposed for many months, but latterly he became so feeble that his removal to the Ipswich Hospital was deemed advisable by his friends. He gradually grew worse, however, and it was known for some time that his end was not far distant. The remains were brought on to Laidley by last night's mail train and removed to his late home at North Laidley, near Summer Hill. The funeral took place this afternoon, a long procession of vehicles and horsemen following the hearse to the Laidley Cemetery. The last sad rites at the grave were performed by the Rev. P. Fouhy. Deceased leaves a widow and a large family, mostly grown-up sons, one of them, Mr. Julius Kraut, being now in South Africa, whither he went as a member of the first Queensland contingent, afterwards entering the military police force at the seat of war.
