      DEATH OF AN OLD COLONIST.

After forty years of hard toil in Brisbane Peter Von Dohren passed to his rest on Wednesday morning at the age of 60 years, after a short illness. An old and respected colonist, Mr. Von Dohren had earned the admiration and respect not only of his own German friends but of all with whom he had been associated. The story of his life is bound up in the early history of the State. He was born in Worden, in Germany and at the age of 19 emigrated to Queensland with his father Peter Von Dohren sen., his mother Annie Von Dohren, his brother John, his sisters and an old school mate, W. Von Senden. On arrival in Brisbane the colonists settled at Logan-road. Peter and his brother drove the first coaches to Beenleigh over the rough country. On more than one occasion the youthful coach driver was "stuck up" by desperadoes who thought he had gold on board. After his coach experience he became a cab driver and possessed the first hansom cab in Brisbane known as "Von Dohren's cab". Great was the competition for this vehicle and among those who at one time or another rode in it was the late Sir Charles Lilley. Mr. Von Dohren was one of the founders of the Stonehenge Druids' Lodge in Brisbane. He found his chief delight in his home and amidst his friends. He married Miss Minnie Kruse of Ipswich and at his death left a grown up family of four sons and three daughters. One of his sisters married Mr. H. Lose, another Mr. Jansen ("Narellan," North Quay), and a third Mr. P. Pute (Croydon). Many beautiful wreaths, including a magnificent one from his old friends on the Gresham cab rank were sent for the funeral which took place at 4 p.m. yesterday.
